Podcasts for June 30 and July 7

Last week was pretty busy at work and I did not have time to listen to all the podcasts I try to follow, so here is a two week list of them.

Philosophy in Action Rapid Fire Extravaganza – Dr. Diana Hsieh and Greg Perkins answer some 20 questions on topics ranging from Buddhism, Kant, negative income tax and superpowers.

Peikoff.com: Episode 327 – Leonard Peikoff in a special half hour edition of his podcast on the seven steps in writing. He lists the seven steps in order at first and then spends the remainder of the podcast going into detail on step one, the laundry list.

Philosophy in Action Radio – Dr. Diana Hsieh interviews Dr. Paul Hsieh on Arnold Kling’s Three Languages of Politics which can help explain why so often people talk past one another in politics and other issues. The gist of this idea is that there are 3 main axis in political thought and most people will default to one of them. The three axis are: oppressors vs oppressed, civilization vs barbarism, and liberty vs compulsion. These roughly correspond to progressives, conservatives and libertarians respectively. During this podcast they mentioned a podcast with Arnold Kling, where he talks about his idea.

Philosophy in Action – Dr. Diana Hsieh and Greg Perkins answer questions on applying rational principles to everyday life. This week they deal with questions on:

  • Psychological egoism
  • Purpose of Atlas Shrugged
  • Limiting another’s generosity
  • Eight questions for the rapid fire queue

Peikoff.com: Episode 328 – Yaron Brook on Leonard Peikoff’s podcast answering questions on:

  • Transitioning from a mixed economy to a laissez-faire system.
  • Excluding student loan deby from bankruptcy
  • Defenders of capitalism often point out that pure capitalism has not been tried, but isn’t it true that communism has not been tried so how can we say it failed?
  • How do you deal with the charge that we are hypocrites for taking advantage of government service.
